Fines/Fees/Lost Books

Fines and Fees

McLennan Community College Library aims to promote access to our resources by eliminating overdue fines. Patrons are encouraged to return items promptly but late returns will not incur financial penalties.

However, if a library item is returned damaged, the patron will be responsible for replacement costs. Similarly, if an item is reported lost, a replacement fee will be charged.

Lost Items

An item is assumed lost after 40 days past the due date and a hold will be placed on the patron’s account until the item is returned. In the event that you cannot find and return the item, you will be charged the replacement cost of the book plus a $5 processing fee. If the item is a book that is no longer in print, you will be charged a flat fee of $20 for paperback books or $30 for hardcover books.

Damaged Items

Items are considered damaged at staff's discretion. As with lost books, you will be charged the replacement cost of the item plus a $5 processing fee. If the item is a book that is no longer in print, you will be charged a flat fee of $20 for paperback books or $30 for hardcover books.

No charges for normal wear and tear, i.e. slight bending at corners, creasing on spine, etc.

Damages that do not fall under normal wear and tear:

  • Missing cover/pages
  • Extremely bent cover/pages
  • Wetness/mold damage
  • Food stains
  • Oil residue
  • Stickiness
  • Pencil, ink, highlight markings
  • Tears, cuts
  • Graffiti
  • Other unusual damage

For questions, please contact the library staff. Thank you for helping us maintain our collection!
