Argumentative Essay research requirements:

  • Choose a debateable topic for research
  • Use the library's search tools to locate four articles that discuss your topic. Dr. Scott accepts:
    • journal articles
    • credible magazine articles
    • credible newspaper articles
    • pro/con articles from CQ Researcher or Opposing Viewpoints
  • Make sure that your four chosen articles include multiple viewpoints on your topic:
    • either 2 articles that support a position and two articles that oppose it
    • or articles that cover both sides of the issue
  • If you have trouble finding an appropriate article,  ask an MCC librarian for help by stopping by the library or by using the links in the "Get Research and Citation Help" box on this page.
