Your Assignments

Before submitting your outlines:

  • Make sure they follow the Outlines and APA Formatting template in Brightspace
  • Make sure your submission is single spaced. (APA usually calls for double-spaced lines, so don't forget to make this adaptation.)
  • Make sure you include the correct number of sources:
    • four sources for the Informative Process Assignment
    • six sources for the Persuasive Group Assignment
  • Make sure you follow the APA Manual or the samples in the Outlines and APA Formatting template when citing sources
    • Include a References page at the end of your outline, which includes a permalink for any source you obtain through the MCC Library
      • view the second video on the "How to Begin" page of this guide to learn to locate the permalink for library resources
      • that video addresses the cite, share, and save buttons; the share button leads to the permalink
    • You do not have to include in-text citations in your outline, but you will need to include verbal citations in your speech, which will include:
      • publication source (book title, journal title, website name, etc.)
      • date of publication

If you're confused about citations:

Check out the "MLA Citations" box on this page or ask an MCC librarian for help by stopping by the library or by using the links in the "Get Research and Citation Help" box on this page.

Format

Formatting Your Assignments

Professor Hampton has specific formatting expectations for the Informative Process and Persuasive Policy assignments. (Format describes the way a paper is laid out on the page.) Those instructions vary from standard APA 7 format, so you should not rely upon the APA 7 manual for formatting guidance. Instead, you should review the APA Formatting Guidelines that Professor Hampton provides on Brightspace. That document is titled Outlines and APA Formatting

Cheating, Plagiarism, and Academic Integrity

It's easy to understand most types of cheating because we learned about them as children. It's harder to understand plagiarism though.

Take a look at McLennan Community College's Academic Integrity policy to learn how the college defines cheating and plagiarism and discover the penalties for each.

Afterward, visit Purdue OWL's Quoting, Paraphrasing, and Summarizing or its Best Practices to Avoid Plagiarism to make sure you know how to avoid accidental plagiarism. (Yes, you can accidentally commit plagiarism!)

The video below also offers some useful information on plagiarism and tips for avoiding it.
