Study Skills Help!: Evolving as a Student

Study helps and it helps to study

GROWING STRONGER as a student

Like with a skill or a trade, a student may become more proficient over time.

As you grow into a stronger student you will recognize and develop the ways in which you study best.  The ways you read for different subjects and how long you need to spend reading will eventually become apparent to you.  Your skills for taking notes will also become more individualized as you gain confidence in recording the spoken word.

Remember that your notes are your notes, so the more you personalize them, write questions to yourself during lectures, create illustrations that support your topics, and make your notes as helpful and fun as you are able, the more you will be ready to revisit them in the future.  Similar to writing, note taking can improve with practice.

Try not to make studying such a big deal.  If you are a student you will be studying.  Reading, writing, conducting research, thinking, observing, questioning, seeking, finding, comparing, pursuing, learning, putting to memory, acting, reflecting, building, investigating, interviewing, interning, training, organizing, drawing, exploring, listening, sensing, gleaming, compiling, fine tuning, citing, reporting, solving, and even praying are all ways you may engage in study.
